THRILLED to receive the news that I had been chosen as Peñista del Año 1996, I could not hide my immense happiness. My thoughts immediately turned to those unforgettable years when I had the honour of leading my beloved Euqor Crew, and later serving as President of the Inter-Crew Federation, working for the benefit of our cherished San Roque Festivities.
Through this message, I would like to encourage the committee members of every crew to continue striving, year after year, to improve these much-loved festivities by working together and pursuing shared goals. I would also like to remind you that, in years gone by, we faced certain difficulties with the public authorities and the Bullring Board of Trustees. Today, however, many of those organisations are led by people who were, and in many cases still are, crew members themselves, always willing to work alongside you for the good of our festivities.
To the Brotherhood of Saint Roch, please accept my warmest congratulations. As a fellow crew member, I would like to thank you for the remarkable work you have carried out in recent years to restore our Hermitage of Saint Roch, which at one time seemed almost beyond saving. Once again, my sincere congratulations go to every member of your committee.
May San Roque 1996 bring us all joyful festivities, and may we continue the tradition of warmly welcoming both the people of Calatayud and the many visitors who join us during these special days.
LONG LIVE SAINT ROCH!
