To be honest, I do not really know how to begin this message or how to put into words all the emotions I am feeling and wish to share with you. I know it is difficult to understand unless you have experienced it yourself, as I have this year. Over the years I have shared moments of emotion with many of those who received this honour before me, but you can never truly appreciate what it feels like until, after so many years of working for the San Roque Festivities, it is your own son who, filled with excitement, tells you: "Dad, you're the Peñista del Año 2008."
This is something that only happens once in a lifetime—and not to everyone. That is why I feel immensely happy and honoured by this recognition from all of you. I would like to share it with everyone who loves, lives and works for the San Roque Festivities. Each and every one of them will have a small place on the shirt I will wear with immense pride and affection as I do my very best to attend every event in the programme of this San Roque 2008, which will undoubtedly remain unforgettable for me.
When my son Rubén gave me the wonderful news, the thirty-four years I have spent as a member of Euqor Crew flashed before my eyes, bringing back so many unforgettable memories. What greater honour could there be in a year when Euqor Crew is celebrating its 50th anniversary? My only wish is that this year's San Roque Festivities pass without incident and that we can all enjoy them together in a spirit of friendship and harmony.
Calatayud and its people have always been known for their warm hospitality towards everyone who visits us. Let us continue to be an example of good citizenship by ensuring that these festivities are remembered only for their joy, respect and good behaviour.
