A little over fifty San Roque Festivities ago, I put on my black shirt, my white trousers and my neckerchief, and attended my very first Chupinazo. A great deal has happened since then.
As I sat down to write this message, my thoughts turned to the friends and fellow crew members who are no longer with us. Sadly, there have been many, and I would like to remember each and every one of them with great affection.
This year's San Roque Festivities will be different and especially meaningful for me because representing all the crew members of our festivities is a tremendous honour. I would therefore like to express my deepest gratitude to the Inter-Crew Federation and to all the crews for naming me Peñista del Año 2009. I sincerely hope to prove worthy of the distinction as I represent you all.
May this year's San Roque Festivities be as special for every crew member as they will undoubtedly be for me.
